Skiing the Portes du Soleil Region

Avoriaz at the heart of Portes du Soleil has been one of the biggest players in world skiing for the last 40 years. With 12 linked Alpine resorts in France and Switzerland, 650km of skiing and one liftpass for all of it!
212 Interconnected lifts
273 Marked Runs
216km Cross Country Trails
5km Longest Run
1,466m Vertical Drop
78km Green Runs
280km Blue Runs
234km Red Runs
59km Black
5 Snow Parks & Super-Pipe
The Avoriaz-pistes are divided in 4 sectors:
The Lindaret, Haut-Forts, Fornet and Super Morzine (being mainly the connection to Morzine.)
The Lindaret is a beautiful valley with a number of red and blue runs plus a single black. In the Lindaret-valley one finds "The Stash" voted the best piste run in the world in 2014 and the only one of its kind in France.
The Fornet is a large bowl with basically skiing everywhere between huge rocks and crevasses. From one of the ridges around the Fornet bowl you can test the famous La Chavanette - also known as The Swiss Wall, one of the steepest pistes in Europe.
Haut-Forts is the most demanding area with a number of black runs starting at 2.400 and ending at 1.100 metres, some of which are for experts only. This area is also ideal for off-piste but it is possible to ski directly back to Avoriaz by red or blue slopes.
For Beginners
The nursery slopes are very convenient. The slopes are sunny, yet good for snow, and link well to longer easy runs. There is plenty here for you to practice and improve on during the week, remember to sign up for our exclusive EGSW Beginners Ski School.
For Intermediates
The Portes du Soleil circuit through Châtel, Morgins and Champéry is excellent for all grades of intermediates. There are quiet and scenic blues to Les Prodains and the Arare and Chavanette sectors are gentle, spacious, above-the-treeline bowls. The Lindarets area is also easy, with great runs through the trees.
Further afield, Champoussin has a lot of easy runs, reached without difficulty via Les Crosets and Pointe de l’Au. Better intermediates have virtually the whole area at their disposal. The runs down to Pré-la-Joux and L’Essert on the way to Châtel, and those either side of Morgins, are particularly attractive – as are the long runs down to Grand-Paradis near Champéry. Pointe de Mossettes offers a less challenging route to Switzerland than the "The Wall" itinéraire at Chavanette.
For Advanced Skiers
Tough terrain is scattered about. The challenging runs down from Hauts Forts to Les Prodains (including a World Cup downhill) are excellent. There is a tough red and several long truly black runs. Also don't forget the best piste run in the world in 2014 "The Stash". The Swiss Wall at Chavanette will naturally be on your agenda, and Châtel’s Linga sector is well worth a trip. The black runs off the Swiss side of Mossettes and Pointe de l’Au are also worth trying.
Terrain parks
Avoriaz built the first terrain park in France, in 1993. It is still leading the way, and there are five parks and a super-pipe, all ‘very well’ maintained.
The expert park is at Arare, and the kicker and rail lines are superbly designed and shaped. It also has an airbag jump – ‘the most fun I had all trip’, says a recent visitor. Beginners and intermediates should head to La Chapelle – a 500m-long park littered with jumps of all sizes and fun little boxes and rails. The Stash, in the Lindarets valley, is a great innovation imported from California – routes cut through the forest, and wooden and natural elements bringing all-mountain riding and freestyle together; great fun. And there’s a boardercross too.
